Aldous Huxley – „Brave new world”, 1932
„Brave new world” was on my to-read list for a very long time and finally I did it. I was looking for it everywhere, in Polish or in English, but every time I saw it somewhere it was crazy expensive or very heavy – not a good travelling partner. The version I read I found on the market in Holland, it was small and cost only 10 euro cent! We talked about Aldous Huxley with Kevin many times and he wanted to read „Brave new world” as well. And guess what – he got it as a gift from his friend Adriënne a few days before we left to Indonesia. Coincidence? I don’t think so (hehe).
To be honest, I have no idea how to describe this book, because it was one of the best things I have ever read. The psycho of the characters, the plot, the surroundings – everything was extraordinary. But the most amazing thing is that Huxley wrote it almost a century ago. He was able to travel even further ahead in time than we are living now.
„Brave new world” is a story about a super modern utopian civilization without problems, diseases, nor ‘sexual boundaries’. Artificially made babies, fake relationships between people, and happiness pills on daily basis made the world appear ‘perfect’. God was replaced by ‘Ford’, who was the creator of this society. People were divided into groups, each assigned with different tasks/jobs which fits their IQ-level so they don’t get bored. Not that it mattered – society was on higher priority in this utopian world than the individual.
People, who lived outside the ‘perfect world’ and who still kept their emotions and feelings like their ancestors, were called ‘The Savages’. They were different so they were dangerous. One of them, Mr. Savage was the only one who could ever enter the civilized part of the world. And he messed it up a bit.
I have no idea how, but Huxley managed to create one of the bests books ever. I’m sure it’s not only my private opinion. The way how he described people, how he designed the world from the future –it’s crazy and incredible. To everyone out there – READ IT!
„Brave new world” is the coolest book ever.
